The CEO of Kantanka Automobile, Kwadwo Safo Jnr., has publicly apologized to prominent YouTuber Wode Maya, over what he termed as a ‘regrettable miscommunication’ between their respective parties over his company’s refusal to heed his calls for a potential collaboration.
The apology was delivered during an interview with Berla Mundi on TV3 New Day on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.
Kwadwo Safo Jnr. expressed his regret over the misunderstanding, stating, “I want to stand here on national television and apologize to him. There was some miscommunication.”
He also delved into the origins of the hiccup, sharing insights into why they declined initially.
“The person that was responsible for the first decline or whatever came to me personally one Saturday at home and apologized,” Safo revealed.
The CEO continued, “I told him that listen, I’ve been watching this guy at home and his viewership is a bit far. There are people I see Wode Maya interview from other nations and I feel I, Kojo, have even done more.”
It was during this discussion that Safo uncovered the root cause of the miscommunication.
“That was when I was told that he came but there was a small communication issue. I wouldn’t want to speak about this on national TV but I’ll have the team contact him directly and sort this thing out,” he revealed.
The controversy involving Kantanka Automobile and Wode Maya dates back to 2019 when the YouTuber, known for his “Africa to the World” tour, sought to feature them on his platform.
Despite reaching out through letters and emails, Maya’s attempts were met with resistance.
“As part of my Africa to the World tour, I reached out to them. They were the first, but they still refused me,” Maya lamented in a video shared on his YouTube channel.
Kantanka Automobile is currently facing criticism for its perceived reluctance to collaborate with the Wanderlust Ghana team on their historic 10,000-kilometer expedition from London to Ghana.
This expedition, which concluded on Sunday has captured the attention of Ghanaians worldwide and gained international recognition.
Many believed the inclusion of the indigenous automobile brand would significantly enhance its visibility and promote the company’s products.
However, revelations have since come to light, shedding light on the interaction between Kantanka and the Wanderlust Ghana team.
Richard Anim, a member of the expedition, shared, “We approached Kantanka but they didn’t even give us the time of day or give us the audience, they didn’t bother with the meeting.”
