Gospel musician Piesie Esther has expressed contentment after failing to win the coveted Artist of the Year award at the recently held 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

Responding to Andy Dosty on Hitz Day Break if she was disappointed with the outcome of the results on Saturday night, the “Wayε Me Yie” hitmaker revealed that she had no regrets about not winning the award, as she was still happy to be recognized in other categories.

“I was not disappointed at all for not winning the Artist of the Year,” she said.

Piesie Esther who eventually won the Gospel Song of the Year and the Gospel Artiste of the Year categories at this year’s VGMA was also a top contender for the ultimate award and gave the other competitors a run for their money.

Although she did not win the ultimate, she stated that in the run-up to the event, she felt she had what it takes to be crowned the winner.

“In fact, I was thinking I could also win but if I didn’t win and Blacko won that’s also fine because he has also worked for it. It was in my mind that if I win fine but if another person won it’s fine,” she added

Piesie Esther further revealed that she was content and grateful because this was her first time winning an award on the VGMA platform.

Her positive outlook on the situation was also a reminder that success is not solely defined by awards but by the impact one makes through their work.

“This is my first time winning awards at the VGMA, I have been nominated in the past but I did not win so I was happy for winning this time,” she concluded.

The VGMA Artist of the Year award was won by Black Sherif, who beat off competition from other top musicians in Ghana including Sarkodie, Piesie Esther, Camidoh, Stonebwoy, King Promise, Kidi and Joe Mettle.

However, Piesie Esther as the only female in the category and spirited campaign as well as the staunch support from other gospel musicians and Christians made it a keenly contested one.
