Thorsten Owusu Gyimah, popularly known as Yaw Tog has said that he isn’t a member of Ghanaian drill music group, Asakaa and would prefer to be addressed by his stage name.
Though he entered the industry through a collaboration with the popular Ghanaian drill music group, Yaw Tog revealed in his interview with Cookie Tee on TV3 New Day that he is not a part of the Asakaa boys.
“ I am not Asakaa, I’m Yaw Tog,” he stated.
He also used the platform to dismiss all claims of him being on bad terms with Jay Bahd or any of their members.
“We’re good. It’s just the job. We are working. The last time I saw him was in the US and at Wizkid’s show,” he confirmed.
The ‘Sore’ hitmaker added that there was a possibility there will be a collaboration between him and the Asakaa boys in the future.
“That time will come again but right now, I think everyone is finding a way to be okay in the industry and its business,” he indicated.
When asked if he thought drill music was the same as highlife, this is what he had to say.
“I’ll say no but somehow yes because we do infusions. When you listen to my other song, ‘aso)den’, it’s got highlife in it and different genres. We do mixtures so I won’t say 100% yes but maybe 50.”
The popularity of Ghanaian Drill music continues to soar higher in recent times and it has culminated in the Recording Academy also known as the Grammy Awards announcing the genre in their new list of awards as part of a groundbreaking initiative to ensure that music from Africa receives the recognition it deserves.
