Ghanaian Afrobeat singer, Kelvyn Boy, known for his hit song “Mea,” has detailed the profound impact the track has had on his life and career.
Kelvyn Boy who made an appearance on TV3 New Day, did not hesitate to express gratitude for the song’s ability to bring him significant exposure and financial success.
According to the Blak Arm Group signee “Mea” played a pivotal role in changing his life although he had released other songs prior, it stood out and garnered immense attention, which also led to a surge in show bookings,
“That song really changed my life. Yes, it brought me so much exposure even though I had other songs. When ‘Mea’ came I was playing shows every weekend and it brought the hype and I was seeing money,” he told Adwoa Noella and Roland Walker on New Day.
Recalling how the song was created, Kelvyn Boy said he was tired and ready to sleep when he heard a beat playing.
“I was actually sleeping and the guy was playing the beat and we had recorded a song already,” he narrated
However, the sound of rain prevented him from dozing off, leaving him restless. At that moment, he found himself humming a melody from MASSARI’s 2006 song “Real Love,” which had been stuck in his head.
“I was tired and was going to sleep and it rained so I couldn’t sleep. I picked the melody from MASSARI’s 2006 song Real Love. If I don’t tell you, you won’t know, it was ringing in my head like that. So I told Samsney and we recorded the melody without the lyrics. And Joey B did his thing on it,” he finally added.
