The regional and national elections of the National Union of Musicians in Ghana (MUSIGA) have been scheduled for Tuesday, October 10, following a recent court ruling on an injunction case filed against the union on August 7, 2023.

The electoral process faced a temporary suspension owing to a legal challenge brought forth by two MUSIGA members, Doe Kwablah Seyenam Nyamadi and Frederick Van Dyk.

The primary contention revolved around MUSIGA’s adherence to its constitution, particularly regarding the requirement for transparent financial reporting.

However, in August, the Accra High Court rejected the injunction, stating that the plaintiffs failed to demonstrate that they would experience “irreparable harm” if the elections proceeded. Consequently, they were instructed to pay damages of 10,000 cedis to the union.

Thomas Yawson, a gospel musician, is set to run uncontested for the position of 1st Vice President whilst Stella Ganyo and gospel artist Abena Ruthy are competing for the 2nd Vice President position.
