Patience Ozorkwor named winner of the Industry Merit Award at AMVCA 2023.

Patience Ozorkwor, a seasoned actress, received the prestigious Industry Merit Award at #AMVCA9 in recognition of her remarkable contributions to the field.

The honorary award given by MultiChoice through Africa Magic for a lifetime of service to the advancement of African cinema is given each year to an actor and actress who has worked for over 20 years in the industry.

In response to the honour bestowed upon her, Mama G, as she is affectionately called, exclaimed, “I will die for your love; hatred and those who don’t value me no longer matter.”

Patience Ozorkwor is a gospel singer, actress, fashion designer, and veteran musician from Nigeria.

In 2012 and 2013, she took home the Best Supporting Actress prize from the 10th Africa Movie Academy Awards.

The actress from Nigeria has appeared in films including “2 Rats,” “Blood Sister,” “Karishika,” “Omugwo,” and “Igodo.”

Known for her remarkable versatility as an actress, she has also gained recognition for her portrayal of wicked and antagonistic female characters in several films.

Her ability to convincingly bring these complex and often disliked characters to life has impressed audiences and showcased her incredible acting range.

In 2014, to commemorate the union of the northern and southern protectorates, Mama G was one of the top 100 Nigerians honored by the Nigerian government.

The AMVCA is a yearly award given by Multichoice to honour exceptional achievement in television and movies.

The award ceremony for this year took place from May 18 to May 20 of 2023. The actual award show took place on May 20, 2023, after a number of pre-show activities.

The famous event, which honoured African film industry stars, was held at the Eko Hotel in Lagos.

Brotherhood by Jade Osiberu and Anikulapo by Kunle Afolanyan both won many prizes in various categories. A number of people were recognized, including Bimbo Ademoye, Samuel Perry, Tobi Bakre, Osas Ighodaro, Efe Irele, Adeoye Adetunji, and King Bugar.
