The family of the late iconic Highlife musician, Kwadwo Akwaboah, who was affectionately known as Akwaboah Snr., has organized a 1-week celebration to pay tribute to his remarkable legacy.

The event took place on Tuesday, May 30, in Trede, situated off the Obuasi road in the Ashanti Region which saw numerous individuals join the family in commemorating the one-week memorial and extending their heartfelt condolences for the loss of the beloved Highlife maestro.

Notable personalities, including Rex Omar, Strongman, and other members of the entertainment fraternity, were present at the solemn event.

Akwaboah Jnr., the son of the late Akwaboah Snr., shared pictures and videos from the memorial service on his social media platforms with the hashtag, #AkwaboahLivesOn

Akwaboah Snr was known for songs including  “Awerekyekyere,” “Odo Bra (W’akye3),” “Opintin,” “Adesre,”  etc and was celebrated as a gifted instrumentalist.

Before his passing, Akwaboah Snr. battled various health challenges, including blindness and the ailments that come with old age.

Despite these challenges, his passion for music remained unwavering, and he continued to captivate audiences with his soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics.

Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to preserving and promoting the essence of Highlife music, a genre deeply rooted in Ghanaian culture.

A date for his final funeral and burial rites will be communicated to the general public soon.
