Founder of Media Excel Production and gospel music producer, Kwesi Ernest, has confidently declared that a win for Piesie Esther as the Artiste of the Year at this year’s VGMA is non-negotiable
The world of Ghanaian gospel music has seen Piesie Esther emerge on the lips of many for a while now after she dropped her popular “wayε me yie” single.
Her powerful ministration, soulful lyrics and her ability to touch hearts and souls in a way that few others can has earned her a place in the hearts of gospel lovers.
It, therefore, came as no surprise when she was nominated for the prestigious Artiste of the Year award at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
Kwesi Ernest made this statement when he appeared as a guest on TV3 New Day on Friday.
“A month ago I told you that Piesie Esther winning the artiste of the year is non-negotiable because we are breaking the 3 and that’s how is supposed to be,” he said

The seasoned gospel producer explained that the award should go to Piesie Esther because of her impressive musical career and achievements, as well as the impact her music has had on the Ghanaian music scene.
“If you cast your mind back, it’s been 24 years of VGMA and out of this 24 years of organization, Gospel has only won two of the topmost of the last 24 years. You saw Black Sherif’s post yesterday, he said that this connects his toil, sweat and blood and that same sweat and toil is what we the gospel fraternity want to use in promoting our music. It’s the same energy we are also using to push our agenda,” he explained

He added that her music in the year under review has transcended just the gospel music space, and has touched the hearts of many, regardless of their religious affiliations.
Kwesi Ernest’s comments have been met with both praise and scepticism from the public, with many people questioning whether or not Piesie Esther truly deserves to win the award.
Some have argued that there are other artists who are equally deserving of the award, while others have expressed their agreement with Kwesi Ernest’s sentiments.
Despite the differing opinions, one thing is for sure – Piesie Esther’s impact on the Ghanaian music scene cannot be denied.
The Church of Pentecost has also thrown its support for her bid for the Artiste of the Year due to her significant contributions to the gospel music industry.
Whether or not she wins the Artiste of the Year award at this year’s VGMA remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – Piesie Esther is a force to be reckoned with and she will definitely give the other artist a run for their money on May 6.
The 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Award will be broadcast live on TV3 from the Grand Arena in Accra on the 6th of May, 2023.
