Renowned Ghanaian musician, music producer, DJ and all-round entertainer, Andy Nii Akrashie, popularly known as OJ Blaq sadly passed away at the age of 40 on Thursday, August 17, 2023.
He was put on dialysis in 2016 after being diagnosed with a double kidney issue.
His acting career
In the early 2000s, OJ Blaq started his acting career. He appeared in numerous Ghanaian movies, including the 2003 Suncity TV series in which he played the role of “Malon T.”
Suncity was a popular Ghanaian television series produced by Deltrac Media and aired on GTV.
OJ graced our screens alongside the late Suzzy Williams, Ekow Smith Asante, Linda Quanshigah and Kojo Dadson.
His music prowess
The ‘Target’ hitmaker released his first debut solo collection dubbed the ‘The Blaq Mixtape’ at Lynx Entertainment in 2006. He went on to release hit songs such as ‘Chale Wote’, ‘Me wo mma’ and ‘Target’. OJ Black was known for his unique rapping style. The Biggy Boy Lover collaborated with a variety of musicians, including Okyeame Kwame, Asem, Sydney, Tinny, Richie, and Kwaata.

His transformation into Christ
OJ Black was transparent about his transformation into following Christ. OJ Black disclosed that he kept hearing the word ‘dialysis’ which he later discovered was the voice of the Holy Spirit directing him to seek treatment. The Oracle of Jesus, took Christ seriously after he recovered quickly from dialysis. He believed he was healed by God and had to change from his old ways. As he drew closer to God, he transitioned from the secular genre into the gospel world, where he released ‘Have your way’ and also embarked on life-changing activities. OJ Black was a junior pastor at the Empowerment Worship Center before sadly passing on.
The Ghanaian industry has lost a legend, and OJ’s absence will be heavily felt as he greatly contributed to the industry.
