A prominent voice in the entertainment industry, Enock Agyepong has urged the VGMA Board to apologise to veteran musician, Amakye Dede for bringing his name and brand into disrepute.
In a recent episode of #OnuaShowbiz with Nana Kwame Gyan, Agyepong expressed his strong opinion regarding the treatment of veteran musician Amakye Dede by the VGMA (Vodafone Ghana Music Awards) board in regard to the crowing of Kuami Eugene during the 20th VGMA’s.
According to the pundit, Charterhouse, organizers of the prestigious VGMAs, coerced Amakye Dede into crowning Kuami Eugene as the winner.
“Do you think anyone is a Kid here?? Charterhouse forced Amakye Dede’s hand to crown Kuami Eugene. They’ve used the scheme to push personal agenda,” he shared.
Reacting to the news that it was Kiki Banson, artiste repertoire manager on the night who forced the ‘Akwadawesoa’ singer to bestow Kuami Eugene as the next Hi-Life king, he alleged that personal agendas were at play.
“Kiki Banson, a former board member has been mentioned as the person who forced Amakye Dede to crown him. What was his agenda?? He knew it was wrong and still went ahead to do it,” he stated.
Frank Agyepong also raised concerns about Banson’s motives and questioned whether there may have been plans to use that as a dress rehearsal to award Kuami Eugene the following year.
“If they could allow Amakye Dede to crown him ?? What’s proof that they didn’t also plan to award him as VGMA artiste the next year?” he queried.
Expressing his disappointment in Charterhouse’s inactions, the vociferous pundit asserted that they need to apologize to Amakye Dede promptly.
“They need to apologise to him. He is a fully grown man and a chief for that matter and they went ahead to ridicule him in such a manner. That is how they’ve treated the system, with no respect,” he criticized Charterhouse.
He also chided them for evading responsibility for the incident, despite it happening on their platform.
Drawing parallels, Agyepong questioned whether, in a similar situation, he himself would not face repercussions for his statements if found to be untrue on Onua Showbiz.
“They’re saying it happened on their platform but they have no hand in it. If I come and sit here and say something and I am sued, won’t they drag you the host of this show along? They should do the needful and apologize,” he hammered.
