The 2023 VGMA Gospel Artiste of the Year, Piesie Esther, has opened up about not winning the Best Music Video of the Year and Songwriter of the Year awards.
In an interview with Cookiee Tee and Berla Mundi on TV3’s New Day on Tuesday, May 9, the 2023 Artiste of the Year nominee recounted her disappointment after losing the two awards.
Piesie Esther lost the Songwriter of the Year award to fellow contender Perez Muzik, who beat off competition from her, Black Sherif, Fameye, Diana Hamilton, and Ewura Abena.
“For the Songwriter category, I was disappointed but because it was won by my fellow gospel musician it was fine by me,” she said.
She also lost the Best Music Video of the Year Award to Black Sherif, who also beat her to the ultimate, Artiste of the Year award.
The ‘Waye me yie’ hitmaker also revealed that a lot of time, dedication, and investment were put into the video shoot of ‘Waye me yie’, so she was really expecting to win that award as well.
She, however, admitted that Black Sherif equally deserved the award just like any other nominee in the category.
After being consistent in the music industry for two decades, Piesie Esther walked away with two prestigious awards of the night as she bagged both the Gospel Artiste of the Year as well as the Gospel Song of the Year.
