Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has opened up about his life following the annullement of his marriage emphasising his dedication to his children as he embarks on a new chapter in his.

After a five-year-long legal battle to divorce his wife, citing alleged infidelity on her part, the former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, received the verdict of the divorce settlement last week, ultimately concluding his marital journey.

The former Black Stars captain did not explicitly reveal his next plans but said he was currently focusing on his kids.

“The reason why we went to the court was that I annulled the marriage and my wish has been granted because the things I unraveled were the truth,” he told Asempa FM, as quoted by the Daily Graphic.

He further stated that his children were “the most important thing. I am very, very happy with my life, I am a family man, my children like and love me and I also love and like all of them and so that is where my focus is.”

Gyan and Gifty were once in love and got married in 2013 but their relationship became damaged beyond repair, leading to a very bitter separation.

The couple’s marriage made the headlines when Gyan filed for a divorce at the Matrimonial Division of the High Court in Accra in 2018.

The former Black Stars captain was then doubting the legitimacy of his three children and therefore requested for a DNA paternity test to be carried out on each of them to ascertain the truth.

After five years of protracted dispute, the court finally ruled on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, that Gyan is the biological father of all three children of Gifty Gyan.

The court ordered the ex-Sunderland striker to pay his ex-wife a sum of GHc25,000 every month for the welfare and upkeep of their children.

The school fees, medical bills, dental care fees, flight tickets for travel, and other costs that may come with raising children, are not included in the above sum.

Gyan’s house in the UK and another four-bedroom apartment in Ghana have also been awarded to his ex-wife by the court as compensation.

A gas station owned by the retired football at Prampram and a BMW car is also among the properties awarded to Gifty as part of the court settlement.

Meanwhile, Baffour Gyan, the brother of Asamoah Gyan has rubbished reports suggesting that his brother was on the losing side of the divorce settlement.

According to him the properties handed to Gifty were already in her name and were not losses of Gyan and the overall verdict meant the former Udinese forward was vindicated

The 37-year-old after an envious career especially for the Black Stars retired in June 2023 as Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances. He also holds the record as Africa’s top scorer at the World Cup with six goals.
