Following Ghana’s disappointing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier draw against Madagascar, many Ghanaians took to social media to express their displeasure and criticise both the players and coach Chris Hughton.
Black Stars’ poor performance has left fans disappointed and concerned about the team’s chances of qualifying for the tournament. Ghanaians did not hold back in expressing their displeasure.
Fans’ frustration over the team’s inability to secure a win against the underdog Madagascar has flooded social media platforms. Many fans criticised the players for their lack of creativity and attacking threat throughout the game.
Hughton has also come under fire from fans who have questioned his tactics and team selection. Some fans were unhappy with Hughton’s decision to start certain players, while others criticised his substitutions and overall strategy during the match.
Forget about Dede Ayew and Jordan. There is no quality in this blackstars team. Rubbish ankasa

🚨🚨Chris Hughton the honeymoon is over, we are used to this nonsense, I thought you were going to build a team cuz of the profile of the players we have
But no, the same old nonsense, Dede Ayew still playing 90 mins for Ghana? Why? 😤

Dede Ayew playing 90 minutes in 2023 is a crime punishable by being sent to The Night’s Watch.

Chris Hughton and his colleagues have work to do before the AFCON proper. We have lots of exciting talents, but there’s little sign of it all coming together and that’s troubling. pic.twitter.com/4kOFbuS1Qz

Coaches we employ are tactically inept. Chris Hughton is no exception. We fell off big time. pic.twitter.com/uSd5FYbPuU

The more I spend time watching Black Stars, the more I get scared if we qualify for the AFCON.
For about a year or two, we are still struggling to score goals.
Chris Hughton and his staff must find a solution quickly.
It was an uninspiring performance against Madagascar

Tell me the difference between Chris Hughton and Otto Addo as the head coach of the Black Stars. 🥱
— Nana Kwesi Eshun (@_NanaCwesi_) June 18, 2023
Chris Hughton is yet to impress Ghanaians after he started as the national team coach, no improvement so far from the team Otto Addo left.
Some players have paid their dues and this is the time we have to move without them if we want to go far as a nation.

Chris Hughton really has a lot of work to do on the current Black Stars team

The draw has left Group E wide open, with three teams still in contention for qualification. Ghana currently have 9 points, followed by Angola with 8 points and the Central African Republic with 7 points.
In the upcoming September fixtures, Ghana must either win or secure a draw against the Central African Republic at home, while Angola could qualify with a draw in their final game against Madagascar. As for the Central African Republic, they need a victory against Ghana to secure their place in the tournament.
