Ghanaians pay tribute to legend Asamoah Gyan after announcing retirement

Ghanaians have come together to pay tribute to the greatness of Asamoah Gyan following his announcement of retirement on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old football icon declared, “It is time. It is time to hand the jersey and boots in glory as I officially retire from active football.”

Gyan made the emotional announcement during his speech at the Accra International Conference Centre during the 30th Afreximbank Annual Meetings. His words struck a chord with fans and the football community, signalling the end of an era.

Gyan set numerous records and received numerous awards during his illustrious career, and his name is inscribed in Ghanaian football history. Notably, he is Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, having netted an impressive 51 goals for the national team. He also established himself as the highest-scoring African player in FIFA World Cup history.

Ghanaians took time to reflect on Gyan’s remarkable journey and showered him with glowing tributes as word of his retirement spread.
