Nigerian football legend John Mikel Obi has expressed his confidence in brokering a deal that would see Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen don the blue jersey of Chelsea in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Osimhen, currently under contract with Serie A champions Napoli until the summer of 2025, has been a subject of transfer speculation, with Premier League side Chelsea reportedly in the mix since the previous summer.

In a lighthearted interview on the Obionepodcast, Mikel Obi shared his aspirations to play a pivotal role in bringing Osimhen to Chelsea, emphasising his belief that the 24-year-old forward would make the switch by the next summer transfer window.

“Next season, I know you are gonna come to Chelsea, man,” Mikel Obi confidently stated.
The former Nigerian national team captain highlighted the need for a player of Osimhen’s calibre at Chelsea, drawing comparisons to the iconic Didier Drogba era. Mikel Obi acknowledged the void left by Drogba’s departure and expressed his determination to see Osimhen fill that gap.

“I’m gonna make sure that happens. We are crying out for someone like you – since Drogba left the club,” Mikel Obi added, underlining the significance of Osimhen’s potential addition to the Chelsea squad.

As Osimhen’s contract situation unfolds and transfer speculations gain momentum, Mikel Obi’s optimism adds an intriguing layer to the ongoing narrative surrounding the Super Eagles star and a possible move to Stamford Bridge.

Evidently, Chelsea have lacked a renowned striker despite the promising signings they have made recently including Senegal forward Nicholas Jackson who is still trying to maneuver his way around a new club, environment and country having joined from Villarreal after an impressive season.

Despite a poor start to the season, the 22-year-old has scored four goals in his last two games and hopes tp build on that even as the club continues to search for a lethal forward.
