‘I won’t be swollen-headed’ – Richmond Lamptey responds to Black Stars links

Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey has responded to the growing calls from football enthusiasts and analysts suggesting his inclusion in the next Black Stars call-up in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The former Inter Allies midfielder with stellar performances in recent times has caught the eye of many with his masterclass display against Hearts of Oak helping his team to clinch a crucial 3-2 victory over the Phobians.

Reacting to the ongoing conversation surrounding his performances and his possible inclusion in the Ghana squad, Lamptey says he won’t be carried away from the commendations but will rather continue to work hard to continue earning recognition.

“I’ve heard calls for my inclusion in the Black Stars call-up. But as a professional player, these things shouldn’t get into your head but rather should encourage you to work harder so you bring out your best. I won’t be swollen-headed, but I will keep working hard,” he told the media of Asante Kotoko.

 

Meanwhile Ghana, with recent disappointing performances are gearing up for their 24th AFCON appearance to be held in Ivory Coast between January 13 and February 11, 2023.

The Black Stars are pitted against record holders Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique in Group B as they continue their journey in their quest to end their 41-year-old trophy drought.
