Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus has sparked speculation about a possible shirt number change at Ajax after wearing the number 7 jersey in Tuesday’s pre-season friendly, in which he was absolutely impressive.

The 22-year-old, who was fantastic last season for Ajax, scoring 16 goals and providing three assists, demonstrated his skills in the exhibition game against Shakhtar Donetsk. Kudus scored twice and assisted on another as the Dutch champions won convincingly to boost their morale ahead of the upcoming season.

However, it was not only his performance that drew attention but also his shirt number. Kudus, who has worn the number 20 shirt since joining Ajax from Nordsjaelland in 2020, took to the pitch wearing the number 7 jersey.

The number 7 shirt was used by Steven Bergwijn last season, but in the friendly, he was seen wearing number 11. Bergwijn’s decision to change numbers has further fueled speculation that the number 7 shirt could be passed on to Kudus, highlighting the club’s recognition of his growing importance within the team.

While no official announcement has been made regarding a shirt number change, Kudus’ choice to wear the number 7 has increased speculation about his potential switch. We will have an answer when the squad numbers are confirmed before the season begins in August.
