Luiz Diaz’s heroic performance against Brazil brings tears of joy to father after recent kidnapping

In a deeply emotional moment, Luis Diaz’s father was overwhelmed with joy as his son gifted him with an incredible performance following his recent abduction ordeal.

The Liverpool forward scored twice in three minutes, to secure a comeback victory for Colombia against Brazil on Wednesday night.

His father, Luis Manuel Díaz, who was recently released after a 12-day abduction ordeal, had an emotional reunion with his son just two days ago. Overwhelmed with joy, he watched as Luis Diaz netted two late goals against Liverpool teammate and Brazil shot-stopper Alisson, in the 75th and 78th minute during their World Cup qualifier.

The euphoria reached its peak as Luis Diaz’s father visibly moved, nearly fell to the floor after the second goal. Fans around him joined in the jubilant celebration, creating scenes of pure joy.

A fan’s footage captured the father slumping down in his seat, overcome with emotion. Before the match began, Luis Manuel Díaz shook hands with fellow supporters who welcomed him to the stadium in Barranquilla, highlighting the significance of the moment beyond the realm of football.

Brazil goalkeeper Alisson expressed his sympathy, stating, “He[Luiz Diaz] is a friend; he suffered a lot these days. This is beyond soccer. But we are leaving here in disappointment.”

The abduction occurred when armed men on motorcycles kidnapped Díaz’s parents from a gas station in Barrancas on October 28.

His mother, Cilenis Marulanda, was rescued within hours, while special forces were deployed to search for Díaz’s father in a mountain range on the Colombia-Venezuela border. The National Liberation Army (ELN) initially claimed responsibility but later admitted it was a mistake, ordering the father’s release.
