Former Barcelona prodigy Bojan Krkic has advised young aspiring footballers, cautioning them against trying to emulate the ‘extraordinary’ careers of football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Bojan, who had his share of high expectations after breaking through at Barcelona at a young age, believes that the achievements of Messi and Ronaldo are almost impossible to replicate due to their extraordinary abilities.
Bojan stated, “Neither Messi nor Cristiano nor Rafa Nadal are ordinary cases. They cannot be an example for young people. They are extraordinary. Success is not that. It is only going to happen to them. Success can be applied to many scenarios.”
Bojan, who retired from professional football at the age of 32, urged young players not to model their paths after the trajectories of Messi and Ronaldo. He emphasised the need to consider more conventional routes into the world of professional football.
While his perspective differs from the conventional viewpoint of emulating football greats, Bojan provided an alternative approach for aspiring footballers to consider when seeking influential figures to emulate.
He pointed out examples like Sergio Canales, who persevered despite injuries, and Joselu, who reached success later in his career.
“For me, Sergio Canales is a successful athlete because he has torn his knee three times and has made it to the national team. Joselu, at 33 years old, has arrived in Madrid. These situations are successful.”
