Lionel Messi is set to make his Inter Miami debut in just over a month, when he takes on Mexican side Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup, a competition that pits teams from the MLS and Liga MX against one another.
The news of Messi’s signing with the MLS team sparked widespread excitement, resulting in a sell out of tickets for the match. On the black market, resale prices range from $1,319 to $6,000, according to reports.
Although there hasn’t been an official announcement or finalization of contract details, Inter Miami are working towards having the Rosario-born player make his debut on the specified date.
This has been confirmed by Jorge Mas, the majority shareholder of the American club. Mas believes that Messi’s arrival will leave a lasting impact on sports in the United States.

“I think there will always be a before and after Messi when we talk about sport in the United States…. I have a very, very strong belief that we can create in North America and the United States, if not the best league, one of the two best leagues in the world,” Mas stated.
The owner of Inter Miami sees Messi as a game-changer for MLS, stating, “Messi is going to be the biggest ambassador and recruiter in the history of Major League Soccer. His very presence in this league is going to be attracting talent of all ages and all levels. It is, I think, a tremendous and unprecedented opportunity ahead of us.”
