Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has named Anfield as the stadium with the best atmosphere.
The former Ghana international faced Liverpool multiple times at Anfield during his time with Chelsea, and he believes the atmosphere at the stadium is unlike any other venue he played in.
Reflecting on his encounters at Anfield, Essien told Goal Africa, “Then again, I’ve played in a lot of stadiums. But I think Liverpool, Anfield is quite the atmosphere that is quite amazing.” He holds the stadium in high regard for its electric atmosphere and passionate fans.
Essien joined Chelsea from Marseille in 2005 and remained with the London club until 2014 when he made a move to Italian giants AC Milan.
Throughout his nine-year stint with the Blues, Essien achieved remarkable success, winning major trophies including the UEFA Champions League and Premier League twice.
The now 40-year-old is attached to Danish club Nordsjaelland, working as an assistant coach. Earlier this year, he completed his UEFA A coaching license, furthering his involvement in the world of football.
