Brazilian football star Neymar has been fined for the construction of an illegal artificial lake at his mansion in Rio de Janeiro state, as reported by the Spanish newspaper Marca.
The fine imposed by the Brazilian municipality of Mangaratiba amounts to $3.3 million and pertains to the creation of an artificial lake within the property’s extensive gardens.
Environmental authorities visited Neymar’s residence a fortnight ago and discovered multiple irregularities, prompting them to halt the ongoing works and prohibit the construction of the lake.
The irregularities identified by authorities included diverting streams, unauthorised extraction of water from a river, prohibited excavations, improper movement of rocks and earth, as well as the use of sand from the nearby beach without authorization.
The construction was taking place in the Aero Rural condominium, adjacent to Portobello, where Neymar owns another luxurious mansion spanning approximately 5,000 square meters.
However, Neymar allegedly failed to comply with these directives, as videos surfaced on the internet showcasing a party held at the property a few days later.
