The president of Comoros Azali Assoumani, has praised the national football team for their outstanding performance against Ghana, securing a crucial victory in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers at the Moroni Sports Stadium.
Ghana faced a setback in their World Cup qualifying campaign, succumbing to a disappointing defeat at the hands of Comoros in Moroni. The decisive moment came with a brilliant first-half strike from Myziane Maolida, marking a notable upset over Ghana on home soil.
President Assoumani expressed his congratulations to the Coelacanths for their stellar performance, stating, “Congratulations to #Coelacanthes – brilliant and victorious against the Black Stars of Ghana. Two matches, two victories to take the lead in ‘Group I’ in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. You are the pride of the Comorian people. #Veripiya”
The victory places Comoros at the top of Group I with six points, surpassing both Mali and Ghana.
Meanwhile, Ghanaians have voiced their frustration over Chris Hughton’s coaching performance with many questioning his choice of player selection.
The defeat, the first suffered under Hughton in a competitive game, has raised concerns about his future as the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) approaches. The pressure intensifies as the Black Stars navigate through the qualifying stages for major international competitions.
