In his memoir, Ghanaian actor, Adjetey Anang has shared a shocking account where he was approached by a political party to endorse their flagbearer during a period when he was facing financial hardships.

The memoir, which delves into various aspects of his life was launched on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the Skybox Event Centre.

The grand event saw friends, colleagues, and prominent personalities from the film industry and politics gather to celebrate the actor’s 50th birthday and launch of his Foundation, One In A Million.

Notable attendees included Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Okudzeto Ablakwa, presidential candidate Hassan Ayariga, acclaimed director Shirley Frimpong-Manso, and actors such as Lydia Forson, Van Vicker, Jackie Appiah, Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku, Nana Ama McBrown, Martha Ankomah, Eddie Nartey, and many others.

According to Anang, the monetary reward offered in exchange for a few minutes of endorsement seemed tempting and had the potential to alleviate his financial troubles.

“…on another occasion, I was approached by a political party in which I had many friends, to endorse the campaign of their flagbearer,” Anang recollected in the book “I was broke, the monetary reward was tempting, and all I needed to do was a few minutes of endorsement and my troubles would be over!”

Anang admitted that he was tempted by the offer but recognized the need to consider his values and the implications of such a decision.

He disclosed the political endorsement offer to his wife, Elom, who also recognized the potential for financial relief it could bring to their family. Together, they weighed the pros and cons of accepting the offer.

However, despite the allure of a financial escape, the couple made a joint decision to prioritize their principles and decline the political party’s proposal.

“I discussed it with Elom and she also saw the prospect of an escape from our financial difficulties, I politely declined the offer and went on with my hustle,” he added.

In a recent interview on Midday Live on TV3, the Ghanaian actor Adjetey Anang encouraged individuals to look beyond sensationalized headlines from the media and analyze the content for themselves.

“People don’t read so somebody says a word and people take it up and that’s a whole new conversation without analysing the book for themselves. We are just a negative kind of people most of the time and it’s just unfortunate so that will be my response to what has happened so far,” he concluded.
