Revised tariffs trigger online backlash as MTN adjusts data bundle prices

93

Ghanaians are fuming airing their displeasure on social media following the increased data packages of mobile telecommunication network MTN.

The price hikes affect calls, SMS, data and other offerings of the company.

In the wake of the tariff adjustments by MTN, a 4.3-gigabyte Turbonet fixed bundle now stands at GHS43, with the 91-gigabyte and 350-gigabyte bundles priced at GH₵253 and GH₵516, respectively.

MTN’s Broadband Special Bundles have also seen upward revisions, with a GH₵150 fee now providing a 39-gigabyte bundle and GH₵300 granting access to a 195-gigabyte bundle among other packages.

The increased prices, effective Tuesday, have ignited a storm on the internet. MTN clarified that the adjustments were in response to regulatory requirements, contrary to earlier indications of rising operational costs.

As a result, the majority of comments and criticisms are now directed at the Vice President of Ghana, who also serves as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2024 elections and the Minister for Communications, Ursula Owusu.”
