Overall I'll choose Gyan over Appiah
Asamoah Gyan & Stephen Appiah both had successful stints as captains of the Black Stars. Gyan's goal-scoring prowess & Appiah's leadership skills made them valuable assets to the team. It's subjective to determine who was better, but they both left a lasting impact.

In a sporting sense, no. Neither won anything of note as Captain. In their humannes, very very definite NO! Mr Appiah holds a valid claim to be the greatest captain outside the group of captains who won trophies.
