In the aftermath of Ghana’s 2-2 draw against Egypt at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Southampton winger Kamaldeen Sulemana has expressed admiration for his compatriot Mohammed Kudus’ outstanding performance.
Kudus, who missed Ghana’s initial AFCON match due to injury, made a triumphant return, scoring two impressive goals in a bid to secure victory for the Black Stars. Despite Ghana being denied the win due to defensive errors, Kudus earned the Man of the Match accolade.
Sulemana, who unfortunately missed the tournament due to injury, took to X (formerly Twitter) to show his support for the team and commend Kudus. In a tweet, he said, “Sit on your throne ‘Menua’,” using the term for brother, showcasing his appreciation for Kudus’ remarkable efforts.
Kudus’ first goal came on the brink of halftime, delivering a powerful strike from behind the box after a precise pass from Salis Samed. Although Inaki Williams’ poor back pass allowed Egypt to equalise through Omar Marmoush, Kudus swiftly responded by curling a shot to the far corner, putting Ghana back in the lead at 2-1.
However, a lackluster display from substitute Osman Bukari, who came on for Williams, resulted in Egypt restoring parity as Mostafa Mohamed scored from Trezeguet’s cutback, concluding the game in a 2-2 draw.
With Ghana securing one point, the Black Stars are now focused on their must-win final group game against Mozambique. The team aims to clinch victory and advance to the knockout stage of the competition.
