Music professional and talent manager of BET Nominee Camidoh, George Mensah Britton has debunked the assertion that his artiste was nominated because of his deep-seated connections with the network.

In a recent interview, Britton shed light on what it takes for an artist to secure the coveted nomination at the esteemed Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards and how his team did it.

“I mean I know some few people at BET and MTV but it’s not because I know them that’s why they recognized our efforts to get this nomination,” he asserted

According to the renowned entertainment industry insider, it is the quality and popularity of the artist’s music that play a decisive role in securing a nomination.

Explaining further, he revealed that achieving recognition at the BET Awards requires an artist to reach a certain level of musical excellence that easily captures the attention of the BET committee.

The BET Awards committee specifically looks for songs that are not only popular but also possess unique qualities that resonate within their platform.

He stated, “For you to get recognition at that level your song must be at a certain level which would be easy to capture their attention at the BET. So usually what happens is that they look for songs which are popular and easy to be recognized in their space and songs which are good”.

He also mentioned the significance of his artist, Camidoh’s body of work in the year under review including tours and activations.

“They considered the work we’ve done previously, and as of last year, Camidoh performed in over 18 countries worldwide, making the song [Camidoh’s] a big hit. We even did a remix in Latin America, and it was able to penetrate through Mexico and their market, so they realized we’ve really done a huge job,” he revealed.

The BET Awards, known for celebrating Black excellence in music, film, sports, and other creative arts nominated the ‘Sugarcane’ hitmaker in the Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act category of the 2023 edition.

The talented artist will compete against other outstanding pool of global musicians vying for prestigious accolades including Asake from Nigeria, Flo from the UK, Libianca from Cameroon, Maureen from France, Mc Ryan SP from Brazil, Pabi Cooper from South Africa, Raye from the UK, and Werenoi from France.

The BET Awards will take place at the Microsoft Theater on Sunday, June 25, 2023, and Camidoh told TV3  in interview that he is confident of securing the award.
